The striker has been training with James Beattie's League Two side after learning he would start the season with several players ahead of him in the first-team reckoning.

Jon Daly and Nicky Clark have both come in since the end of last season, while Ally McCoist can also call on Andy Little and Lee McCulloch.

Rangers assistant manager Kenny McDowall said: "We've allowed Kal to go down to Accrington, where James is the manager.

"He has gone there on trial with a view to maybe moving on because he's at an age now where he's got to go and get himself playing football.

"We feel Kal might become frustrated at being in the squad this season but without getting many games.

"He has started pre-season really well and he has worked hard but we just felt we had to be fair to him and give him the opportunity to look elsewhere."
