The Light Blues opted against accepting their ticket allocation for the fifth round tie after fans called for a boycott.

Following the cup draw, supporters' groups immediately called for a stay-away protest for the first match away to SPL opposition since Rangers were relaunched as a new company and denied entry to the SPL.

United said they would still sell tickets to any Rangers fans wishing to attend and were happy to reserve an appropriate section of the stadium for opposition supporters.

A statement from Rangers read: "Rangers wish to confirm that other than players and support staff, the club will have minimal presence only at the Scottish Cup fifth-round tie against Dundee United at Tannadice on Saturday, February 2.

"Board members who attend will do so in order to comply with any official obligations.

"The club would like to remind supporters of the decision not to accept tickets for Tannadice and believe our fans, even those who take pride in following the club to every match, understand our position."

Speaking on the issue in December, Ibrox chief executive Charles Green said: "This is a unanimous decision by the board, senior management and staff at Ibrox.

"Everyone at this club is dismayed at the actions of certain SPL clubs, which were actively engaged in trying to harm Rangers when we were in a perilous situation and we are acutely aware of their attitude to us."
