Shiels saw a specialist this week after being carried off on a stretcher during Rangers' 2-1 defeat by Annan on Saturday.

The injury had already forced Shiels out Northern Ireland's squad for their World Cup double header against Russia and Israel and it looks set to put him out of the remainder of his club's Third Division campaign.

McCoist said: "Dean went down to London on Monday and it is not great news with regards his knee.

"Hopefully it does not require an operation. Without speaking to the specialist myself, which I haven't done, I have spoken to the doctor. It would be very surprising if Dean comes back this season.

"Again rather half-full than half-empty, it looks at this stage as if no surgery will be required."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
