JOE HART: Heart-in-mouth time when he slid out to challenge Roman Zozulya in first minute but stood strong late on. 6.

KYLE WALKER: Had hardest job trying to subdue Konoplianka. Got caught upfield once but otherwise maintained discipline. Booked. 6.

ASHLEY COLE: Excellent performance. Solid defensive display forced Ukraine to channel all their attacks down their left. 7.

GARY CAHILL: Superb central defensive display. Didn't buckle in face of early Ukraine wave and kept his cool for the second effort. 8.

PHIL JAGIELKA: Fine foil for Cahill. Set about his task well, always knew where Cahill was and mopped up when needed. 8.

THEO WALCOTT (off 87): Bright at times, frustrating at others. Most likely to open Ukraine up but could not. 6.

STEVEN GERRARD: Curled one effort over but main role was screening defence. Decent effort. 7.

FRANK LAMPARD: Could have done with keeping hold of possession a little better but not really a game to shine on 100th appearance. 7.

JACK WILSHERE (off 67): Disappointing first half when too many passes went astray and didn't improve much after the break. 5.

JAMES MILNER: Was not picked for flamboyance but Hodgson knew he could rely on the Manchester City man to do the hard yards, and he did. 5

RICKIE LAMBERT: Began with purpose but Ukraine defence quickly got his measure. 6.

Substitutes

ASHLEY YOUNG (on 67): Did okay without really altering the pattern of the game. 6.

TOM CLEVERLEY (on 87): Not enough time to make an impact.

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.

Where's The Love For Walcott?

Theo Walcott is wanted by neither Arsenal or Liverpool fans in the afternoon Mailbox. Also, some good points on the FA skewed priorities, and glorious geekery...

There is some support for the aging Robin van Perise in a frankly threadbare Mailbox. Also, more debate over homegrown players, with a suggestion of an import tax...
