Jagielka: Terry door open

Phil Jagielka feels the England door remains open to John Terry, with it up to the Chelsea man to decide if he walks through.

Blues skipper Terry has not turned out for his country since announcing his international retirement on the back of the Football Association's handling of his race row with Anton Ferdinand in September 2012.

That has left the vastly-experienced centre-half stuck on 78 caps.

It has, however, been suggested that he could be tempted back into the fold after making an impressive start to the 2013/14 campaign at club level.

Any recall during the build-up to the 2014 World Cup would put Jagielka's starting spot in doubt, but the Everton defender says he would have no complaints about the added competition for places.

He is quoted in the Daily Star: "If JT feels that's what he wants to do, it's up to him. He's playing well for Chelsea at the moment, so anything's possible.

"Obviously it was his decision to leave in the first place and it can only be his decision to come back.

"The manager will know who he wants and who he doesn't want and a lot can happen even after the next two games.

"If you do get a chance to play, you'll want to play well and put down a marker.

"I don't think the scrap for starting positions starts quite yet. That will probably start towards the end of the season."

England begin their preparations for the 2014 World Cup with a home date with Chile on Friday, before arch-rivals Germany arrive at Wembley for the second instalment in a friendly double-header on Tuesday.

On those encounters, Jagielka added: "There was a chance these games weren't going to be friendlies at one point, so it's nice.

"They're two fantastic teams for us to play.

"They are both at home, so hopefully we'll get a decent turn out in both games and get some decent game time. It's all good preparation before the finals in Brazil."

e'll be fine, no problem. If they do get relegated, he's definitely going to ask how anyone could ever have thought that Villa were going to be fine given their problems before he came.

toke though. Hmn. I don't think it was defending that made people dislike Stoke so much as the out and out cheating/nastiness they regularly displayed. That, and they kept buying the odd flair player and then ruining them (Oh! Tuncay, what were you thinking?).

ell that really inspires me with confidence. No point in training, deciding on a coherent formation, or playing players in their best positions, let's just hope we get lucky.
