The visitors and league leaders entered this match as big favourites but encountered a fired-up home side who created just as many chances as their more illustrious opponents.

Both goalkeepers came away with credit from a match that leaves Stevenage one point off safety and Wolves still on course for promotion back to the Championship.

After Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme had prevented a Kevin McDonald own goal in the first half, he then did well to tip over a powerful effort by Jimmy Smith.

His opposite number Chris Day then shone as he denied both Leon Clarke and Michael Jacobs with great saves in the final 20 minutes.

Jackett said: "I thought the first half was pretty even and in the second half we had the better of it.

"We had some big chances and obviously didn't put them away but really that was all the second half lacked.

"It's a tough place to come with the high energy levels from Stevenage and looking at the bigger picture I'm not disappointed with a point because in the position we're in every point is a good one.

"That was our game in hand on third place and that extends the gap to 11 points with six games to go so the overall position is very good.

"In terms of our performance, we want to get our full energy and sparkle back for Saturday to do well against Peterborough.

"Stevenage had a very high motivation level and we just couldn't find the goal or goals that we needed in the second half ."

ell that really inspires me with confidence. No point in training, deciding on a coherent formation, or playing players in their best positions, let's just hope we get lucky.

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
