The Sky Blues won four and drew one of their five league matches last month, putting them within touching distance of the play-off places.

Now-departed loan striker David McGoldrick also scooped the player of the month award following his braces in the wins over Doncaster and Walsall, coming before his stint at the Ricoh Arena ended in early January.

Attacking replacement Leon Clarke was the hero on Thursday night as the Sky Blues booked their place in the area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a dramatic 3-2 win over Preston courtesy of two injury-time goals.

After leading at half-time through Steven Jennings' goal, City looked to be heading out of the competition when two deflected strikes from Luke Foster and Stuart Beavon gave Preston the lead.

But a rise in volume from the home faithful prompted by the signal of five minutes of additional time gave the hosts a boost and Carl Baker duly levelled before Clarke, with his first goal for the club, netted the winner.

"The finish to the game was unbelievable," Robins said.

"We thought we were maybe going out of the competition two minutes earlier. The roar from the five minutes gave us a bit of impetus. It just gave a little bit of energy because we lacked it all night. Again we didn't really cope with the aerial threat well enough.

"When we passed it we caused problems for them. We didn't take our chances again and could have been out of sight. We need to be more clinical. Hopefully that first goal will set Leon off on a run because he has straight away endeared himself to the support. And me.

"We are in a two-legged final now and two games form a Wembley appearance. It's great. The main thing to come out of the game is the character of the players. They never gave up. It was a great two minute performance at the end of this game."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
