The Sky Blues could take as many as 4,000 supporters to Vale Park for the League One fixture, a far cry from the struggle for numbers as they play out their home games at Sixfields while they groundshare with Northampton.

Added to that, Vale are managed by former City boss Micky Adams, are led in the boardroom by Coventry-born owner and chairman Norman Smurthwaite and boast four former Sky Blues players in Lee Hughes, Chris Birchall, Carl Dickinson and Richard Duffy.

Pressley said: "I think, generally, players who are playing against their former teams tend to give that little bit more, which in itself shouldn't be the case because they should be giving that week in, week out.

"Vale have got a number of connections, previous managers and I think their chairman is a Coventry City fan.

"There will be 4,000 of our supporters at the game, potentially 12,000 in total, so it makes it a very interesting game and a really difficult one, it will be like a cup-tie atmosphere.

"That brings a real challenge to us, they'll be hugely motivated by that and it's going to be testing. It's a really big pitch, they play aggressive football and, again, we have to show our mettle."

Coventry, who started the season with a 10-point deduction but are already out of the bottom four, are unbeaten in six games and would leapfrog Vale in the table with victory.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
