Pressley: Wilson stay vital

Steven Pressley considers Callum Wilson to be vital to the Coventry City cause and is determined to keep hold of his services.

Callum Wilson: Frontman is expected to draw admiring glances this summer

The home-grown forward has netted 22 goals this season, with his league tally - which stands at 21 - only bettered by Leeds United's Ross McCormack and Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

Wilson has hit that total despite spending time on the sidelines with a shoulder injury and losing strike partner Leon Clarke to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.

Having been forced to offload one top marksman, Pressley is reluctant to lose another and will do all he can this summer to keep Wilson out of the clutches of a rival.

When pressed on how he intends to go about that, Pressley told the club's official website: "With two arms and two legs if I have to!

"We have to keep hold of him. This is the difficult aspect of being in League 1 and this is why we have to keep moving the club forward.

"Players are ambitious by their very nature but I want the players to realise their ambitions at this club and with the players we have here.

"We've got to realise how many strides we've made this season. There are many players who have progressed brilliantly. When I first came to the club, Callum wasn't involved in the first team.

"The one thing we don't want to do as a club is work really hard on developing young players but lose them all at the first opportunity."

Pressley added on Wilson's qualities: "Callum's biggest strength is understanding. He understands if he doesn't put in the work-rate, then he will not get the reward.

"He works so hard in every game and I think we've seen him improve his finishing since he came back because he didn't have many chances against Crewe but got a brace.

"He has had to adapt to the new demands the system brings and he has done it brilliantly. He displays exactly the sort of attitude we have tried to embed at the club."

irst Townsend, now Chiles. What next ITV? Comedy that you can actually watch without vomiting up your own spleen? I'll be sad to see Matt Smith go though. I actually quite like him. Plus, he was good in Doctor Who.

wful, awful pundit. He was crap on BBC, and offered a little more analysis than Robbie Savage - apart from the delivery of banality in a sexy accent. Also, as I'm Irish he'll never be more then a slimy, hand-balling f**ker in my eyes.
