Rovers boss Dean Saunders has professed his admiration for Reeves, who scored 44 times in 42 appearances for the Blue Square Bet North side this season.

And the cash-strapped Yorkshire outfit would not need to pay a fee for the 26-year-old after Altrincham told Press Association Sport their top scorer has not renewed a deal that expired at the end of the current campaign.

"As far as we're concerned, his contract here finished on May 5 so he is a free agent," said club secretary Derek Wilshaw.

"He can have talks with Sir Alex Ferguson, Dean Saunders or anyone else for that matter.

"If he goes to another club, which I'm entirely sure he will, it will be at his own discretion because he is out of contract."
