However, the former Wales Under-21 boss has not applied for the job.

Flynn, 57, is one half of the interim management team, aided by captain Rob Jones, looking after first-team affairs in the wake of Saunders' departure to Wolves.

He spoke to the media for the first time on Thursday at Rovers' Cantley Park training ground ahead of the League One fixture at Stevenage on Saturday.

When asked if he fancied the job on a permanent basis, he replied: "Of course I would, should the right situation arise.

"I have first-hand knowledge that there's some pretty damn good managers out there not in work. There's a lot of them would be very interested in taking up this position, that's for certain.

"It's an ideal situation for somebody to step into. We've got 50 points from 26 games and we're joint-top of the table - that's a hell of a position to come into."
