Syers sustained the injury during the first half of Rovers' 2-0 defeat at Gigg Lane and had to be substituted seven minutes into the second half.

The midfielder is an early injury concern for boss Brian Flynn ahead of the home game against Walsall at the weekend.

"He has an ankle injury," Flynn told BBC Radio Sheffield. "Typical of David and typical of the group, he said he wanted to go back out in the second half but we could see early on he wasn't right."

Meanwhile, Martin Woods is expected to be back in contention against the Saddlers after remaining on the sidelines at Bury.

The midfielder has been out since November with a thigh injury but completed 50 minutes in a practice game at Manchester United a week ago.

Flynn added: "Martin Woods has done 50 minutes in a game plus a few days training.

"I am sure a full week of training will do him the world of good and I am sure he will be involved in some way next week."
