Appleton is the bookies' favourite to take over from Ian Holloway as Seasiders boss, with the club reportedly planning to unveil their new manager this week.

But the former West Brom coach, whose side suffered a fourth straight defeat courtesy of a Clayton Donaldson header after nine minutes, says he is yet to hear official word of an approach.

Asked if he had been offered he role, he said: "I've not heard anything from anyone at the football club (Portsmouth), so until I'm told any differently I'm going to do what I've got to do.

"Obviously I need to have a conversation with Trevor (Birch, Portsmouth administrator), but I haven't had that conversation with him. If it is true, obviously I'm not aware of it.

"I'm sure a conversation will take place between me and Trevor as it always does after every game. If there is any information to be told, I'm sure he will tell me."
