Chelsea's 2-0 defeat at Everton at the weekend saw Villas-Boas' side drop to fifth place in the table following Arsenal's last-gasp victory at Sunderland.
With the Blues trailing Premier League leaders Manchester City by 17 points, Villas-Boas has already written off his team's prospects of winning the title.
The club still have the FA Cup and this season's Champions League to play for, but qualification for Europe's elite club competition next term is now the priority.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will sack Villas-Boas if the Portuguese boss fails to secure a top-four finish at the end of the campaign.
When asked if he was worried about his position, Villas-Boas said: "No, well, this is a weekend and it doesn't shift from weekend to weekend.
"Now we are fifth, level on points with the fourth team. We know exactly what our targets are for the season.
"There are still plenty of games to play. There is an objective and we have to set out to reach the objective. Champions League qualification is the least you can ask for.
"We need Champions League qualification and that's what we expect. The objective is first place but first place is not a real objective anymore and neither is second."
