Lindegaard has Fergie's faith

Sir Alex Ferguson says the number one jersey at Manchester United is Anders Lindegaard's to lose, with David de Gea forced to wait his turn.

Anders Lindegaard: Has earned an extended run in the Manchester United side

De Gea was drafted in for big money last summer with the intention of becoming United's first-choice goalkeeper for many years to come.

The 22-year-old has, however, struggled to get to grips with life in the Premier League at times and is yet to fully convince his boss that he is a long-term solution between the sticks.

Danish shot-stopper Lindegaard has been favoured for United's last four games and is expected to retain his starting berth for the trip to Reading on Saturday.

Ferguson admits he has no reason to mix things up, with it up to Lindegaard to maintain his recent high standards and keep De Gea frustrated on the sidelines.

Ferguson said: "Anders has done well. It's one of those situation where there is no actual reason to leave Anders out in terms of form.

"Hopefully David understands that at the moment. But there is no long-term issue.

"I really think that creates consistency. That's why I've kept Anders in on Wednesday night (against West Ham). I could easily have changed it again but Anders has done nothing wrong.

"They're both good goalkeepers. I'm going along with Anders at the moment because he is not letting me down."
