Paul Lambert: Aston Villa manager is determined to keep his best young players

Lambert has largely relied upon his rookies this season and his policy has been rewarded with a run of just two defeats in 11 games in all competitions.

Villa have also secured a place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals and produced an impressive performance to win 3-1 at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Summer signings Christian Benteke, Matt Lowton and Ashley Westwood have all caught the eye, while Barry Bannan and Ciaran Clark have been regulars for Villa, and Lambert is determined to keep his promising youngsters.

"You can never stop people looking but, if you want to buy these players, you'll have to have a few quid," said Lambert.

"There is absolutely no chance we would be looking to sell. We are trying to build something here at Aston Villa and progress.

"There are young guys with a lot to look forward to in the future and it is up to us to try and keep building and get the squad improving.

"It's tough but as far as I am concerned nobody is going anywhere."
