Loic Remy: Marseille striker is heading for talks with Newcastle

Remy has been a target for several Premier League clubs and Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp confirmed he had failed with a bid for the France international.

It now appears that the 26-year-old is on his way to Newcastle after an offer, reportedly in the region of €10million (£8.3m), was accepted by Marseille.

"We have an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Remy," Labrune is quoted by RMC. "Loic can negotiate with them."

Sky Sports understands Remy has been given permission to leave the team hotel where Marseille are staying ahead of Sunday evening's Ligue 1 game against Sochaux.

Earlier, former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, who has been a team-mate of Remy's at Marseille, wished the striker well.

Barton tweeted: "Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don't worry I've told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy."

Magpies manager Alan Pardew has been looking to strengthen his options in attack after star striker Demba Ba departed for Chelsea.

Although Ba's exit may prompt Pardew to field Papiss Cisse in his preferred central role, Remy's arrival will provide increased competition for places in a Newcastle squad struggling to repeat last season's achievements.
