The title and relegation battles may be settled, but it is all still to play for in the fight to secure a top-four finish. Arsenal are favourites to record a victory at Newcastle which will see them secure Champions League football next season, while Tottenham are odds-on to keep up the pressure by beating Sunderland.
Liverpool's transfer dealings since Rodgers took charge last year have largely focused on the younger end of the market, but it has not helped to bring consistency to the team's results.
And, with Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season, Rodgers wants to sign players who will add greater character to his squad.
"The biggest thing we need this summer is to bring in some men, some character that allows and supports the others to see the games out," said Rodgers. "That is the biggest thing for me.
"Look at Jamie, he is our best defender, he's 35 but we are losing that character. That has to be replaced, while I also think there are other areas of the team that needs improving.
"They have to be established players, that's the key. They need that hunger to succeed. That is something we'll talk about at the end of the season when we identify where the improvements must be made.
"Whether that is senior players, youth players or getting the mixture right.
"I always like to give young players hope but in order to do that they need experience alongside them.
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that the biggest change needed takes the longest and that is the mentality change."
@ vdawg...... eh there a massive difference between what he does ie constantly talk up the team, compared to being level footed and realistic. fair enough when he took the job he stated publically it would take 2 seasons or more before he would have team in his shape and style etc.. again fair enough.. but for sum reason on numerous occasions after a so called good performance (where we prob rolled over likes fulham sunderland etc) he comes out publically statin ooh we're good enough to challenge for top four, or even more cringe worthy quote " we can finish in 2nd position" im sorry but when have you ever heard a prem league manager talk like that before??? as soon as there's a microphone but in front of the man he feels the urge to waffle on about how things are improvin and how he cant criticize players performance etc etc, yet we still avent beat a team before us.. for me talk is cheap when comes to sport.. how often have you heard Laudraup or AVP waffle on bout there team or philosophy or journey compared to Rodgers?? nada in my opinion.. conclusion in my opinion i wish the man would just shut the f*ck up and get on with rebuildin the team, can safely say then that you wouldnt have the like of me on here complainin. but the reality is he wont. he is a waffler. the media circus is like a drug to him and he laps it up. if kept mouth shut and stuck with his original concept of takin 2 /3 seasons to rebuild then there'd be no compaints from disgruntled fans like myself..
m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!
hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
He is one of a number of solid shouts for players that look old before their time. We also have the final words on lovely D-Beck and a rejection of end of season playoffs...
That's one opinion, but others give their thanks to the man. We also have ideas for a relegation playoff, happy memories of the season and a defence of Liverpool's campaign...
