Rodgers was in attendance in Rotterdam, where Feyenoord claimed a 2-1 Eredivisie win over rivals PSV.

A Feyenoord spokesman told Sky Sports that the Liverpool boss was present: "We can confirm that Brendan Rodgers was here on Sunday."

Stefan De Vrij is understood to have been the main reason for Rodgers' visit to De Kuip. It was reported in December Liverpool were tracking the 21-year-old Dutch international centre-back.

However, Rodgers would no doubt have also taken the chance to run the rule over a number of other players who have been linked to England in recent months.

For Feyenoord, Bruno Martins-Indi and Jordy Clasie will have been of interest, whilst for PSV the likes of Kevin Strootman and Jeremain Lens would no doubt have been of interest too.

I cannot see us being able to get Strootman as all the top clubs will want him. Jermaine Lens is nothing special so it seems likely Rodgers was scouting defenders.Carragher and Coates will both probably be gone in the Summer so we lack depth there
