Does Mid-Table Look Better Than A Trophy?

Were there any mid-table managers feeling a pang of jealousy as Swansea lifted the League Cup on Sunday? How does it feel to put mammon ahead of romance?

@ricky villa - fair. that was a particularly miserable managerial performance from pulis - although we did actually play pretty well on the night.

Just let the winners of the Europa League go in to the Champions League, thus adding value to that competition and then the knock on effect of adding value to qualifying for it i.e. winning cups. Failing that get rid of Europa and have a bigger Champions League where the Europa level teams start in earlier rounds of the competition. Or something else that gives the same level of reward in immediate financial terms as unfortunately that has overtaken the glory and a great day out.

@saidwards - Was it Stoke City that after battling through the Europa groups, decided to take just 15 players to an away leg in Valencia? Or was this a Stoke City from another dimension? Other than that I agree, your recent FA Cup record has been fairly decent.

I have just found out that, due to my job, I will be attending the FA Trophy final Wembley on 24th March. I was lucky enough to be there for the 2011 final and anyone who want to remember what supporting a team is all about should go to an event like this, it means something to these fans. Just being there will be an important memory that will stay with them forever and to actually see your team lift a trophy at Wembley surpasses definition.

Football is about WINNING....FFS....have most of you 'bellends' forgotten that !....who wants to spend his whole life following a Club and not see it win anything ?....exactly.....your all turning into arsenal directors.......even though we 'only' won the 'mickey mouse cup' last season anytime your team is running around Wembley with a 'shiny thing' its fukin great......just ask an evertonian 'bitter'......

Personally i enjoy watching the peripheral players at united getting a run in cup games. I enjoy watching the future prospects. That goes for other teams too. I don't think it undermines the league cup too much. After all it is the third most important cup. And to be fair, even the big clubs put out strong teams in the latter stages of the cup. It is a bit sad how money changes priorities in the game, but that's a means to an end itself. Money can give a club a platform to be a big club with top players, and i think all fans want their team to be a big club. Club gets rich, fans enjoy watching top players, everybody wins.

In answer to the article... NO IT DOES NOT. If you win the League Cup a man (or woman) engraves your club's name on it. The fact of your victory can never be denied. The answer to "What have you won recently?" is so obvious that the question isn't even asked, for a good 5 years anyway. As a Newcastle fan I would clearly love to win anything, and I simply cannot understand why manager after manager has failed to attack the competition. We are routinely out in the first or second round we play in, I don't even remember a Semi-Final. We have to be in the bracket of clubs that should threaten to win this competition. Admittedly, for seasons such as this where we almost flirted relegation into bed, and had a European competition to deal with, perhaps an early exit wasn't a disaster with our thin squad, but if we're not in Europe, and we don't take 3 months off in the league (read November 2012-January 2013 inclusive) we should put out our best possible team in this competition. Nobody remembers who came 8th or 12th in whatever year, but many will remember that Swansea won a cup at Wembley.
