PFA: Women can join from next season

The announcement will see all players registered for the Women's Super League eligible to join the PFA - and to attend the traditionally all-male annual PFA awards dinner.

Meanwhile, the BBC has announced a series of new programmes showing women's football.

PFA chairman Clarke Carlisle said: "I think it is fantastic that women players will now be able to join the PFA - it has been a long time in coming.

"It's perfect timing that this is announced on international women's day and it should be good both for female players, who will now have the support of a long-established union, and for the PFA in terms of increased membership."

The BBC announced it will screen the women's FA Cup final live on Sunday May 26, full coverage of the women's European Championship in July, and following that BBC Two will have four FA Women's Super League programmes providing goals round-ups, highlights and features as well as looking ahead to England's World Cup qualifiers, which will also be shown live on BBC.

BBC Two will also have two preview shows, fronted by Jacqui Oatley, on May 20 ahead of the women's FA Cup final and then on July 8 ahead of the European tournament.

Does that mean the PFA will include women footballers in their annual PotY awards?
