This guy has some temerity... spent so long injured for Newcastle, only to miraculously be 'fit for England' whenever there was a match, only to be straight back on the physio bench after playing. I know quite a few Newcastle fans who saw this pattern...

I can certainly believe that the club didnt offer him a new contract, why on earth would they? Sound decision making as I see it.

Why would they offer him a new contract? He was on 100k a week and had spent the vast majority of his 4 years there injured.

No contract, but apparently the real problem was they wanted to change his seat on his season ticket and put him in the main stand.

I recall his departure being seen as not only inevitable but desirable (along with others like Duff). I wouldn't have wanted him to stay even on a quarter of the wages. The main reason we bounced straight back up was the team spirit from the remaining core squad (and Chris Hughton of course) centred around captain Nolan who all wanted to put in the 'hard yards' grinding out results at Scunthorpe et al. EMO helicoptering in from his Cheshire mansion to lurk around the penalty area while trying to avoid potentially dangerous cold drafts wouldn't really have worked. Also given his publicly stated refusal to play at a lower level, doesn't really matter if we didn't offer him a second idiotic contract does it?
