Shebby Singh: Stuck the boot in Rovers' former bosses

Bowyer impressed during two spells as caretaker manager at Ewood Park last season, guiding an embattled squad away from the danger of a second successive relegation following Michael Appleton's surprise sacking.

Having agreed a 12-month rolling contract, Bowyer will meet the media for the first time as full-time boss on Tuesday and Singh has handed him an endorsement of sorts after a season where Steve Kean, Henning Berg and Appleton all failed to make the grade in the Rovers hotseat.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "The big challenge is to now not encourage mediocrity. In my opinion, Gary has the support of the majority at the club unlike previous managers, who were pretty much clueless.

"The advantage that Gary has is from his two different stints being in charge he would certainly be aware that he had a very good squad that played with creativity and joy first time out.

"His second stint, which went through until the end of the season, had him dealing with a decimated average squad. I trust Gary will also not alienate players as previous managers did."

However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
