With the January transfer window fast approaching, speculation surrounding Cabaye's future on Tyneside is set to intensify.

He spent much of the summer pushing for a move away from St James' Park, with Arsenal seeing an offer for his services knocked back.

A return to his native France is now being mooted, with reigning Ligue 1 champions PSG said to be leading the chase.

No official offer has been tabled as yet, but Cabaye has done little to curb the rumours by airing his admiration for a star-studded outfit.

He has been quoted as telling beIN SPORT: "As far as I know, there has been no contact with Paris St Germain.

"Who wouldn't want to join PSG today? Paris make other teams afraid in Europe, more so than last season. I really hope they win the Champions League."

PSG coach Laurent Blanc has also been helping to fan the transfer flames, with the World Cup winner quizzed about potential interest in Cabaye after a 5-0 victory over Sochaux on Saturday.

He said: "I'm the coach of a big club with a lot of ambition, so all good players interest us."

xcellent! Not sure if he is any good as a manager (never thought about it) but the 'headbutt in the technical area' and what he said to Pelligrini were just brilliant, it was as if he was trying to recreate the end of the Alan Partridge Xmas special when Alan punched a man in a wheelchair and verbally abused Tony Heirs.
