The two sides will meet in the Amazonian city of Manaus on June 14 where they are expected to be met by temperatures exceeding 30 degrees and humidity of over 80 per cent.

Italy knocked England out of Euro 2012 on penalties in the quarter-finals, but Roy Hodgson's side beat the Azzurri in a friendly in Switzerland less than two months later.

Sky Sports pundit Neville thinks England are big-game players and will qualify from the group, which also contains Uruguay and Costa Rica.

He said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football programme: "The English players will rise to it, I love those games.

"We are stuck with what we have got in Group D. But I also saw Group B with Spain and Chile and thought, 'That's not a good one'.

"Italy and Uruguay will be tough games, but, for me, I'm not sure England are at their best against sort of weaker teams.

"We have nothing to worry about with Italy. We beat Italy 2-1 last year and we drew 0-0 with them in the Euros, even though they dominated the game.

"It would have been better if it had been later in the day, from a football view, but it will be the same for them."

Neville is also fearless of Uruguay and is ready to rise to the challenge of stopping Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

The striker has been in blistering form since returning from a ten-match ban at the start of the season, scoring 14 goals in 11 appearances.

Neville, who played 85 times for England, said: "The Uruguay game is a fantastic match, with Suarez playing.

"The English players will rise to it and love those games."
