The Astonished Gossip

Wayne Rooney to get everything his heart desires, Chelsea and Man United want Luke Shaw, City target Sagna...

ROONEY GETS, WELL, EVERYTHING
If this is true, it's astonishing. And desperate. Just months after his Manchester United career looked to be over, Wayne Rooney (30 next year) will be offered - according to enough reports to suggest that it's accurate - a new four-and-a-half-year deal worth £300,000 a week, the captaincy and inside information about transfers.

According to the Daily Mirror: 'The champions' top brass have already shown their commitment to the England star by ensuring he knew all about their record-breaking move for Juan Mata in advance. The 28-year-old was also informed of manager David Moyes' other plans for this transfer window and the summer.'

If Wayne is reading this, he can jump the next item - he presumably already knows.

LUKE SHAW BATTLE AHOY
'Chelsea will slug it out toe to toe with Manchester United in a bid to land Southampton prodigy Luke Shaw this week,' claims the Daily Mirror, but it looks like the west London club have a head start because the left-back is a 'massive Blues fan'. But there are reports that United have already made an opening £22m bid for the 18-year-old, who could be tempted by the prospect of going straight into the United side in place of the soon-to-be-departed Patrice Evra.

The Daily Telegraph, on the other hand, believes the battle will happen in the summer.

They write: 'With Mata signed and Rooney close to agreeing terms, United manager David Moyes has now charged executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward with completing a deal for Shaw at the end of the season - despite Chelsea appearing to lead the way in pursuit of the left-back because of his boyhood support of the London club.'

They believe competition will drive the price above £30m. Yikes. But If Rooney has decided he's worth it...

CITY WANT SAGNA
Quite why they want Bacary Sagna when they already have the wonderful Pablo Zabeleta is a mystery but Manchester City are said by the Daily Star to be plotting a move for the Arsenal full-back. But with Monaco said to be offering £120,000 a week TAX-FREE and Galataaray, PSG, Fenerbahce and Real Madrid also being linked, the chances are that Sagna will leave these shores when his deal expires at the end of the season.

AND THE REST
Manchester United have an interest in St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma but believe the 19-year-old is destined for Chelsea...West Ham are lining up a move for Southampton's record signing Dani Osvaldo...Newcastle have told interested clubs the bidding for Yohan Cabaye will start at £25million...Everton boss Roberto Martinez is making a new move for Dundee United left-back Andrew Robertson after Bryan Oviedo's horror injury...Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris has refused to rule out quitting the club if they miss out on the Champions League...Everton want £8million Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi to replace the injured Bryan Oviedo...Tottenham are set to challenge of host of clubs - including Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City - for the signing of Juventus starlet Domenico Berardi...

...Blackpool winger Tom Ince is in talks with Swansea after being given permission to discuss a loan move to the Premier League side...West Ham will make a new improved £5million offer for Leeds United striker Ross McCormack this week...Nicolas Anelka has rejected a proposed move to Lazio as West Bromwich Albion wait on an FA decision on the striker the quenelle controversy...Liverpool are keen on 19-year-old midfielder Saul Niguez, and Brendan Rodgers sent scouts to watch him play for Rayo Vallecano against parent club Atletico on Sunday night...Crystal Palace are chasing Twente's £2m-rated Danish defender Andreas Bjelland and Brondby striker Simon Makienok, valued at £3m...Valencia's Sergio Canales remains a loan target for Fulham.

I said last summer that in order to keep Rooney he should be given the captaincy, however I didn't say he should be paid a squillion pounds a year as well. Good Lord.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
