Liverpool hammered Everton 4-0 in the Merseyside derby on Tuesday night, courtesy of two goals from Daniel Sturridge - who missed a penalty - and strikes from Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

Rodgers has had a frustrating time in the window so far, with Chelsea gazumping his attempts to sign Mohamed Salah from Basel.

But he revealed he remains intent on bringing in a player to boost Liverpool's Champions League qualification hopes before the deadline.

"I think we will hopefully do something over the next couple of days," he said.

"I saw some headlines after Monday's press conference in terms of the manager being angry with the club - nothing is further from the truth.

"We are not just going to get the players we want to get in for a number of reasons.

"Hopefully we can have a major signing before the window shuts and if we can do that we will be set up for the remaining games."

Whatever happens before Friday, Rodgers says the derby victory was an important one for the club.

"I think all wins are important but especially against your rivals and psychologically it was a big win and can re-iterate the confidence and belief in the squad," said Rodgers.

"We have to keep our foot to the floor and keep these performances and keep scoring goals.

"This was a massive game. I think we have shown all season we are going to be in contention for fourth place."

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
