Rodgers is right on this one. I always liked Pepe, but he burnt his bridges a bit with that letter, not to mention his blatant flirting with Barca. Plus Mignolet is doing far better than he was early in the season and he's on far less a week than Pepe was on.

Stevechase - I don't think its the number of goals leaked is down to a poor back 4, but the way that back 4 is asked to operate, which has pro's and con's. When Mignolet has the ball the CB's spread out wide and the full-back are near enough at the half way-line. If/when the ball is turned-over, instantly the CB's in particular are "out of position" and have to recover to a better defensive position to protect the central areas, whereas most CB's would have been stood in that better defensive position throughout, they would have equally stifled their full-backs progression and their teams overall ability to commit bodies forward and attack. Its a calculated risk, that should see us in the champions league next year.

It won't be Pepe, but I do hope we have some stiffer competition for Mignolet next year. Brad Jones has not done much wrong, but he's not going to challenge the No.1 spot. We need to add another left-back, centre-mid and winger/forward if we want to compete in europe and make sure of top 4 again next year. I am presuming Illori will come back from loan and Toure, Jones, Aspas will be on their travels.

Did no one see reina's mistake against swansea in europa league second leg. He has not changed, mignolet does make mistakes but he is alright. Besides reina lost the clubs respect when he tried lining up a move to barca.

Mignolet has done well. His distribution and decisions on the ball have improved a lot since those early weeks. Still some way short of Pepe on his passing, but I can't think of a keeper who I would not be able to say the same about. The only other thing he needs to improve on is his communication. I think Pepe's main problem at LFC is his salary, so I can't see us paying Valdes a mega salary, just because he's on a free.

surprisedicare, I have to agree mate Mingolet is not a good keeper. I agree he is playing behind a poor back 4 but he does not instil confidence at all. Valdes seems to be interested and would be a marked improvement

The thing that's really being missed here by all parties is that Reina is contracted to Liverpool until 2016! Granted you don't want an unhappy player on massive wages clogging up the reserves but BR should be talking Reina up to maximise his transfer value not shrugging the shoulders and saying its all over. Criticism of (slumdog) Mignolet is a bit early - young players need time to settle in, give the kid a chance.

I wish Pepe all the best, as i did when Dudek left but we as a team have moved on and i think Pepe heard he was not Barca's next keeper so he want's back. If we do need a back-up keeper that we can count on, I hear Given is out of contract in the summer. May only be a year or two left in him at the top but they could be great years

I loved Pepe and Benitez but those times are now over. Pepe made it clear he wanted to leave before Rodgers came on board with all his talk about Barcelona. That Barca didn't come calling was a huge blow and then Pepe had to deal with a manager who was not going to take that kind of self over the team attitude. Pepe lucked out with Benitez going to Napoli and taking him on loan. Liverpool just need to make sure they get as much as they can out of Napoli to pay for a decent replacement back up goalie and part fund some better defenders.

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
