Remember when Manchester United reportedly bid £30m for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines and then ended up paying £27m just for the Belgian? We can feel something similar coming on with Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw, as the Daily Express claim that David Moyes is ready to bid £30m for the England pair.

Moyes apparently believes Lallana's 'versatility and creativity can rejuvenate United's stale midfield', with the report suggesting that Lallana, Adnan Januzaj and Juan Mata could line up behind Wayne Rooney in a new-look forward line-up. He might want to value him a bit higher, if that's the case.

He may also find that Manchester City and Chelsea are willing to pay a good portion of that £30m on Shaw alone - so any guarantee of first-team football will be entirely wasted.

Tim Sherwood claimed the 'silence is deafening' regarding his long-term Tottenham future, but insisted he doesn't want to become an assistant to Louis van Gaal, who has been openly touting himself for the job.

"The silence is deafening, isn't it?" said Sherwood after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Chelsea. "Look, the decision is up to Daniel. I didn't know if he was here or not. Maybe he was travelling? It's up to the club to make the decision. One thing I can guarantee people is that no one cares more than me."

We suspect this will not go down well.

'Tottenham are looking at Valencia's Jeremy Mathieu in case Jan Vertonghen decides to quit this summer,' claims the Daily Star, who say that the Belgian is on Barcelona's list of candidates - along with David Luiz, Thomas Vermaelen and Daniel Agger - to replace Cares Puyol at Barcelona.

Tottenham are already drawing up contingency plans and these are thought to include French international Mathieu, who has a £17m buy-out clause at Valencia but would be available for less at the grand old age of 30.
