The 22-year-old's deal was due to expire in the summer, but he has agreed an early release from his contract and is now a free agent.

The former England Under 20 international has struggled to break into City's star-studded line-up and has been farmed out to the likes of Ipswich, Oldham, Blackpool and Doncaster over the last three years.

News of Wabara's availability on a free transfer is sure to alert a number of clubs with the defender impressing during his loan spells away from City.

Wabara joined City from Walsall's youth set-up in 2007 and he made one senior appearance in the first-team.
