Sherwood's future at Spurs is believed to be untenable after months of reports that chairman Daniel Levy is actively seeking to replace him this summer.

Ajax boss Frank de Boer claimed last week that Levy has inquired about his services, while Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino and Everton's Roberto Martinez have also been linked with the job.

Spurs midfielder Sandro claimed this week that Sherwood would be sacked and, ahead of what could be his final game in charge against Aston Villa on Sunday, Sherwood said: "If I need any information I'm better off asking the players.

"Sandro wouldn't be the first player to ask me, although he hasn't. Someone has obviously asked him for his opinion and knowledge of what's going on, but I'm not sure the chairman has spoken to Sandro.

"The players look at a lot of speculation and it can begin to be more than that.

"I've had a lot of players come to me and say 'our agents have told us you're not going to be here next season'.

"It's a difficult situation but I've just got to get on with it. There's no a date set to meet the chairman yet. We will sit down and have a chat."

Simon Felstein, Tottenham's head of communications, said: "The situation hasn't changed. We always said Tim will sit down with the chairman and talk about his future in the summer."

Spurs are looking for a positive result against Villa as they aim to secure sixth place and a spot in next season's Europa League, with the 2015 winners gaining automatic entry into the Champions League.

"It's hugely important and a great opportunity for a club like Tottenham to progress to the Champions League via the Europa League," said Sherwood.

"We want Champions League football but we know how difficult it is to achieve. Everyone wants it and the competition is getting tougher."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
