An injury-disrupted 2013/14 campaign at club level with Manchester United means the striker has not played as much competitive football as he would have liked.

Spells on the sidelines could work in his favour, though, as he looks to make a major impact on the global stage this summer.

Van Persie concedes that he is not yet match sharp, having eased his way back from a knee complaint, but is confident he will be firing on all cylinders in Brazil.

He said in The Guardian: "I'm feeling good.

"Mentally I'm fresh. If you play a full season you can be a little tired at the end, but I'm fresh, the knee is fine as well so I'm looking forward to it.

"I'm 100 per cent , it's just that I need a full game now.

"We have three friendlies to play and my last game against Southampton was 67 minutes so hopefully I can play a bit more."

Van Persie will skipper Louis van Gaal's side as they attempt to go one better than their runners-up finish in 2010, and he has been consulted regarding a potential change in approach from 4-3-3 to 3-5-2.

Van Gaal said: "He was here in Holland to recover from his injury and he went to games with me.

"I spoke to him about the way of playing, my ideas, and we discussed it while we were watching the games."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
