The defender is Arsenal's club captain, but he made only 21 appearances this season and started just seven games in the Premier League.

Vermaelen was an unused substitute in Saturday's FA Cup final win over Hull City and has been linked with a summer move away from the Emirates Stadium.

However, the 28-year-old's focus is now on Belgium's World Cup preparations and he is not concerned by his lack of football going into the competition in Brazil.

"I've a lot of experience of sitting on the bench then coming back so I'm not worried about being match fit," Vermaelen told The Sun.

"There is still plenty of preparation time for the World Cup and I will have the chance to play in a few friendly games before the tournament starts.

"A lot of people are talking about this Belgian team and wondering how we will do in Brazil.

"We are stepping into unknown territory. Only one player in our squad has experience of it.

"For the rest of us, it will be the first time and we go there with ambition.

"I am not thinking beyond that. Next season is the future and we will see about that."

Arsenal came from 2-0 down to beat Hull 3-2 at Wembley after extra-time on Saturday and Vermaelen was happy to be given the chance to lift the trophy, despite not playing in the game as the Gunners ended a nine-year wait for silverware.

He added: "I've played in the FA Cup this year against Tottenham, Everton and Wigan, and I'm the club captain so I was very happy to lift the trophy.

"It was a good feeling that my team-mates wanted me to do that. This was the moment all the players have been waiting for."

ow is the time for Allardyce to finally get a chance at a big club please. He is likely to have a number of great offers for his services this summer, but who will he choose? Will it be Liverpool, Real Madrid, Dortmund or Man City?
