The Italian tactician led the Spanish giants to glory in the Champions League in his first season in charge with a dramatic 4-1 extra-time triumph over city rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

It marked a record 10th time and the first since 2002 that Madrid had lifted the trophy in Europe's elite club competition.

"I'm well aware of the importance of this victory," Ancelotti said to Gazzetta dello Sport. "I'm also aware that this victory can open an important cycle here.

"This team has just started to win, we are full of youngsters, talent and will.

"When I signed for Madrid, I had a very clear idea that the Champions League trophy was the primary aim of the club this season.

"This is not just for us but for other top teams, the (domestic) league comes second.

"But considering this was going to be the club's 10th (European title), it was worth double."

Ancelotti's triumph was not only celebrated by Madrid fans but by his country men.

The 54-year-old revealed he received an important phone call after the game.

"I got a call from (Italy's) primer minister (Matteo) Renzi," Ancelotti said. "He complimented me.

"He told me that as an Italian he ways proud of this feat."

Saturday's achievement allowed Ancelotti to join ex-Liverpool boss Bob Paisley as the only managers to win three European Cups - having twice guided AC Milan to the silverware - while he has also won the trophy twice as a player.

However, the former Chelsea coach, who is under contract with Madrid until June 2016, is not getting carried away.

"It's nice to achieve records," the 54-year-old Ancelotti said. "But the reality is a different issue.

"It's not as if these numbers guarantee your future.

"If at the start of next season I lose two games, I will be in trouble, hence, I'm calm."

I

expect Pulis to have a nice Christmas dinner with his family- probably all sitting around the table wearing Christmas themed baseball caps, before he gets the call. Realistically he could end up at any number of clubs, it'll be interesting to see which club folds first.

For Foxes' Sake, Call The Pulis...

A

s a Liverpool fan, I personally hate Palace. My pick would probably be Arsenal, which is funny because it seems the vast majority of their own fans don't even like them right now.
