Will be interested to understand his player retention brief....Lallana, Shaw, Lovren all seem destined for other clubs....however, let's give him a chance. Am sceptical based on some of his previous, but to balance it, Rogers would not be at Liverpool based on previous....anyhow, Spurs will snap him up in 12 months once poor old Poc has been booted for not finishing top 4 (standard Spurs)...sigh :-(

Come on Mad_Dave it's one bad spell, if he didn't fancy certain players then it's up to him, at least he wasn't afraid to drop players like some managers, it sounds like a case of Chelsea players playing badly when AVB was in charge just because he dropped Lampard, Terry and a few others. And when you say "without seeing them play" he's been a footballer and a manager for many many years, i'm sure he'd seen them play before because one of those was 36 and the other 2 were 28, I think it's a great appointment for the Saints and i think he will do a good job.

@mad_dave, that's a bit of a one dimensional view. Most managers will have an episode in their career that didn't play out as expected, could be for a variety of reasons. Let's not forget that this is the only man who has both played for and managed all of the traditional Dutch top three, winning titles at Ajax and PSV and turned Feyenoord from being Dutch football's biggest joke to challengers again. He's also great at spotting and bringing up young talent; the likes of Sneijder, Zlatan, Van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong and Maxwell got their starts under him-as have most of the current Oranje defenders. It might not work out, but there's definite potential there.
