GUNNER BE SUPER MARIO?
It seems that this one could really happen, with the Daily Mirror claiming that Arsenal are willing to pay £25m for the former Manchester City striker, who is apparently very keen on returning to the Premier League. The good news for him is that AC Milan are also very keen to sell.

Monaco are also said to be interested in Balotelli - presumably as a replacement for Radamel Falcao - but the Italian is far more likely to join the Gunners. The same report says they retain an interest in Loic Remy for £10m, but the form of Joel Campbell at this World Cup could mean that Arsenal buy only one striker this summer.

LOOK AWAY NOW ARSENAL FANS
Quite why Arsenal would want players who cannot get in the Manchester United side is anybody's guess but the Daily Mirror are claiming that the Gunners might take Tom Cleverley or Chris Smalling as part of the Thomas Vermaelen deal because of Arsene Wenger's 'admiration' for the pair. Lordy.

'That could act as a potential sweetener, with the Old Trafford giants keen to do a £10million deal for Belgium World Cup defender Vermaelen,' says John Cross, who must have a bizarre definition of the word 'sweetener'.

LIVERPOOL TURN TO RODRIGUEZ
'Liverpool will consider reviving interest in Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez if they fail to agree a deal for Alberto Moreno,' says the Daily Mail, who claim that Sevilla are now asking £20m for Alberto Moreno and frankly playing silly beggars. Swiss international Rodriguez - who impressed in their opening World Cup game against Ecuador - should be a little cheaper, but we would still expect him to be close to the £20m mark.

AND THE REST
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Steaua Bucharest left-back Iasmin Latovlevici as they seek Ashley Cole's replacement...Cardiff are ready to pay £9million to re-sign striker Ross McCormack from Leeds...Brighton striker Leonardo Ulloa has set his heart on a move to the Premier League. Leicester have already had a £7million bid for him rejected...Leicester striker David Nugent is a shock target for ambitious Middlesbrough...Newcastle's bid for French striker Bafetimbi Gomis is stalling - over his demands for a huge signing-on fee...

...Sunderland midfielder Adam Johnson, 26, is a shock target for French side Monaco...New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman plans a double raid on old club Feyenoord for midfielder Lex Immers and striker Graziano Pelle...Everton have joined the queue of clubs who are keen on signing Cardiff City captain Steven Caulker...Newcastle have revived an £8million deal for Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga...Inter Milan have made a fresh bid to sign Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic...Atletico Madrid want Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo as a possible replacement for Chelsea-bound Diego Costa...Everton have bid £10million to beat Arsenal and Manchester United to Torino forward Alessio Cerci.

Balotelli would bang them in at Arsenal, if Wenger can tame his temperament and afford his wages. Cleverley or Smalling - no. just no.

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
