Both teams lost their opening Group D fixtures on Saturday, Roy Hodgson’s men beaten by Italy and Uruguay sustaining a shock loss to Costa Rica.

That means neither side can afford to lose in Sao Paulo this evening, but what would the other match outcomes mean for the Three Lions’ chances of progressing to the knockout stages?

ENGLAND WIN - qualification will be in their own hands if Costa Rica fail to pick up any points against Italy.

ENGLAND DRAW – both teams would remain in contention with the top two playing tomorrow night.

ENGLAND DEFEAT - likely elimination unless Italy beat Costa Rica and Uruguay, and England finish with superior goal difference to both.

Under FIFA rules, if teams are level on points they will be separated by goal difference, then goals scored and then on the head-to-head record between the sides.

put Ince in my fantasy football team, so it's no surprise at all really. I do that to players. Also responsible for De Jong and Upson being injured. Think I'll transfer in Di Maria just to ruin United....
