@juan de gunnaz - add Vieira and Henry to that list! Haven't had a great captain since Adams really (Vieira was an excellent captain but not particularly loyal/committed to the club). Think Mertesacker's the best candidate.

@juan de gunnaz. Per Mertesacker who has just signed a new contract and has captained the team in Vermaelens and Artetas absences would be the obvious choice. Flamini would not

going on the list of Arsenal captains ... MR Wenger missed a trick by not making Bentner captain ;)

I thought Jose Enrique was quite a good player. Not bad defensively and an asset going forward. Still, shows what I know. Apparently he's NOT THE ANSWER!!

Given how the other Arsenal captains have left the club over the years for a reasonable amount of money, hopefully the next one will be Nacho Monreal....

Is Arteta captain now? Of course he has been practically, since Vermaelen doesn't start, but has Vermaelen officially stood down? (Grain of salt, I know it's an agent speaking...)

i don't see the point in manyoo buying a relative child to support an absolute child. the problem with shaw is his relative lack of experience so lets solve that by buying someone else with relatively little experience....hmm this sounds like woodward at work. ok, makes sense

crowedem - I think Flamini is the obvious choice, assuming he'll get more game time this season. Everyone else is too nice except Koscielny, who's too surly.

@ted, manchester, especially when we could take that £20m and spend it on a centreback or a defensive midfield player. None-sensical move, if it's even true.....

I like Arteta and I appreciate the work he puts in. But I don't think there's any denying his best days are well behind him. I wish we'd signed him ten years ago, personally. It got to the point last season where I dreaded seeing his name on the team sheet ahead of Flamini.

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
