Klose turned 36 in June and has now decided that he will carry on for another 12 months before hanging up his boots.

“I’ve decided to retire in 2015,” Klose is quoted as saying in Bild.

Klose has enjoyed a long and illustrious career and became a World Cup winner earlier this month when Germany beat Argentina to lift the trophy.

He is the record scorer in World Cup history after netting his 16th finals goal in the 7-1 thrashing of hosts Brazil.

Klose has played at four World Cups since 2002, while at club level he has appeared for Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.

He switched to Lazio in 2011 and has a contract for one more year, with the option for a further 12 months.

However, this is an option he is not now set to take up and reports suggest he plans to begin a coaching career next summer.
