The Quick Sunday Gossip

Now United want Sterling, Arsenal after Lampard, Anzhi to pay for Torres, Liverpool want Long among others...

UNITED IN FOR STERLING
Sunday is usually silly day in the tabloids, so make what you will of this story and the following one.

The People claim Manchester United want to replace Nani with Raheem Sterling.

Sterling is of course discussing a new contract with Liverpool, and by 'discussing' we mean 'asking for more money than Liverpool want to pay him.'

The word on Saturday was that Manchester City were keen, but now it seems United want him. We suspect they might be just doing it to try and piss Liverpool off.

ARSENAL WANT LAMPARD
And on a similar theme, also in The People, there is word that Arsenal may well and truly be moving away from their youth policy by making a move for Frank Lampard.

The paper reports that, with Lampard set to leave Chelsea when his contract expires at the end of the season, he could make a move across London to the Emirates.

They claim: 'Wenger, who has specialised in the recruitment of emerging young players, has instructed his staff to find some tried and trusted players to bolster emerging young stars such as Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.'

Apparently the only decision Wenger has to make is whether to make a cash bid now, or wait until next summer.

Allow us to say 'hmmmmm.'

ANZHI WANT TORRES?
The question of what Chelsea will do with Fernando Torres might well be answered by The Sunday People, who report that moneybags Anzhi Makhachkala want him in January.

Because Roman Abramovich is pals with Guus Hiddink, the paper suggests that a deal could be struck, and as Anzhi are the only club rich/stupid enough to pay Chelsea the money they want, this could be a goer.

What Torres himself thinks of this is not recorded.

However, a 'source close to' Torres is quoted as saying: "Nobody from Chelsea has told him he will be sold but but it's normal that the club are not satisfied with his perfomances.

"But the person affected most by all this is the player. Nando is conscious that he is not offering his best level."

WHO DO LIVERPOOL WANT
A couple of quick lines on who Liverpool are apparently interested in.

The People reckons they're 'planning a £5million swoop' for Danny Rose, while The Daily Star Sunday thinks they will offer £12million for Shane Long.

The Sun claims Brendan Rodgers is keen on Bafetimbi Gomis, while The Sunday Express thinks they will spend £12million on Danny Sturridge.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
