The Renegades Gossip

Liverpool scrape the striker barrel, United fancy a new keeper, 'Arry Keane on ageing Robbie and much more...

LIVERPOOL SCRAPE THE BARREL
With Brendan Rodgers clearly expressing Liverpool's need for a forward in January, fans will be quivering in anticipation with the star names that could pull on the famous shirt.

Ahhh... Erm... this is a little awkward, actually, because The Sun suggests that the club have made enquiries about Celtic striker Georgios Samaras. That's Georgios Samaras. For £5million.

It's more than likely utter hogwash, but still... Georgios Samaras. Nice and underwhelming.

FERGIE AFTER BEGOVIC BUY
With Manchester United's defence currently looking leakier than Julian Assange's sieve, rumours now abound that Sir Alex will look to plug accordingly.

The Daily Mail reckons that Anders Lindegaard is set to be pushed down the goalkeeping pecking order by the purchase of Asmir Begovic who can be prised from the Britannia Stadium for £8million.

Whilst there is little doubting Begovic's ability, do United not have slightly pressing concerns, or is the Bosnian also a handy central midfielder?

'ARRY KEANE ON AGEING FORWARD
QPR have struggled this season due to the presence of a squad bloated by 30plus, over-the-hill, half-decent-a-few-years-ago international players that seemingly lack the edge to achieve but receive nice high wages for doing so.

Harry Redknapp is addressing this issue by looking to sign 32-year-old international striker Robbie Keane, currently plying his trade at LA Galaxy, in addition to having 30-year-old international defender Tal Ben Haim on trial.

"I haven't spoken to him [Keane] yet but he would be an interesting player. He's a good pro and he would be the ideal type to have around for sure because he would give us something," Harry is quoted as saying in pretty much every paper this morning.

Two salient points:
1. "Interesting player" is presumably the new "top player"
2. Keane could become the 20th player aged 30 or over contracted to QPR. Jeez.

AND THE REST
Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini are heading for a war of words over the number of penalties each side is awarded... Arsene Wenger could be involved in a bust-up with the board over Theo Walcott's contract talks... PSG want to sign Arsenal's Bacary Sagna next summer... Michael Owen has blamed Liverpool for his injury-hit career... Rafa Benitez has held clear-the-air talks with Frank Lampard and John Terry... Chelsea have begun drawing up a list of candidates should Pep Guardiola reject their overtures... Manchester City are interested in Santos goalkeeper Rafael Cabral... Sporting Kansas City Kei Kamara is on trial at Stoke...Middlesbrough want Blackpool's Chris Basham

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
