GOLDEN HANDSHAKE TIME
Merry Christmas Daniel Sturridge. Not only is he expected to complete a £12m move to Liverpool in the coming days, but he will also receive a £1.5m 'golden handshake' from Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge side are willing to pay Sturridge six months' wages in order to push through the move to Merseyside.

Sturridge has never asked for a transfer so he is technically entitled to a loyalty payment from Chelsea, who want to get his £60,000-a-week salary off the wage bill and avoid losing him for nothing in 18 months' time.

WHERE THERE'S A WILL...
...there are three clubs 'ready to start a Premier League stampede', according to the Daily Mirror. They claim that Tottenham will open the bidding for Derby's 17-year-old midfielder Will Hughes but that Fulham and Chelsea are both interested in the youngster.

Derby have reportedly put a £10m price tag on Hughes but could accept closer to £6m if he was loaned back to the club until at least the end of the season.

THUDD FOR READING?
Reading need experienced Premier League players and, according to the Daily Mirror, the first name on their list is Tom Huddlestone, who has found himself back on the Spurs bench after the return to fitness of Mousa Dembele. He is a loan target along with Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson and Liverpool's Joe Cole.

McDermott said: "I feel strongly we need to sign two or three players with Premier League experience, who know what it is like to play in this league. January is a hard window but we have been planning for some time and will make some signings."
