The NYD Gossip

Harry wants Joey Cole, PSG don't want Ashley but United do, and Lampard as well, Liverpool ask about David Villa...

HARRY WANTS JOEY COLE
News about a couple of Coles to start the year in gossip.

Firstly, Harry Redknapp wants to sign Joey Cole. He said:

"I've got a lot of time for Joe, as a player and a person, he's a good lad to have around your football club, a good player. He's interesting me. I'd like to bring him here if we could. We'll see what happens.

"The deal would have to be right for the club. We couldn't do a deal with Liverpool with what his contract is at Liverpool. We'd have to try to find a way of doing a deal with Liverpool, if they're willing to let him go.

"I'll have to speak with Brendan, I'll have a chat with him when the time's right and see what he has to say. I haven't spoken to Joe, I'm not allowed to speak to Joe. Are you trying to get me banned by the FA?

"I haven't spoken to Joe for two years. I nearly took him to Tottenham a couple of years ago but he went to Liverpool, that was last time I spoke to Joe. He's a great lad."

PSG DON'T WANT ASHLEY COLE
And now word from full-time dreamboat and part-time PSG sporting director Leonardo now, and he says they haven't made any approach for little Ashley Cole.

"We have never spoken with Ashley Cole, there has never been any contact," he said.

"Carlo was his coach at Chelsea, that's why that story is doing the rounds.

"Sincerely, we have never contacted Wesley Sneijder to come to PSG - we have five players in his position already."

UNITED WANT ASHLEY & LAMPARD
Speaking of Ashley, there's some red-hot bullsh*t in The Daily Star, who report that Sir Alex Ferguson wants both him and Frank Lampard.

The paper reports, if you want to call it that:

'United boss Ferguson wants both players at Old Trafford next season - and is putting together packages to complete an amazing double deal for the Stamford Bridge rejects.

'Both Lampard and Cole are out of contract at the end of June and Fergie believes the pair can make a huge impact on and off the pitch at United.

'Starsport understands the Scot even considered trying to sign the pair during this month's transfer window but Chelsea are unwilling to do business with any other Premier League clubs.'

Let's just say we're sceptical.

LIVERPOOL IN FOR VILLA
Well, you can't fault Liverpool for their ambition in the transfer market, even if this story (if true) is basically the equivalent of The Gossip Column asking Romola Garai out for a mixed grill down at the local Harvester.

The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool have asked Barcelona about taking David Villa on loan, but the Catalans aren't keen.

The paper claims: 'The 31-year-old is frustrated at the Nou Camp due to his lack of game time and is keen to come to England.

'However, Barcelona will not entertain the idea of letting the Spain international go out on loan and will only consider a bumper transfer offer to sell in this window.'

And by 'bumper' they mean around £16million.
