ARSENAL TARGET VILLA
David Villa has been linked with just about everyone in the top half of the Premier League in the last week or so, but it seems Arsenal are now in pole position to seal a deal for the Spain international.

According to The Mirror and The Daily Mail, Arsene Wenger will dip into his transfer pot to fund a move for the 31-year-old Barcelona forward, who will apparently cost around £15million.

The Mirror claim: 'Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool have all enquired about Villa, but Spanish giants Barca have rebuffed any approaches relating to a loan move and say they are only interested in a permanent transfer.

'Barcelona insist they have not had a concrete offer from Arsenal but are aware of their interest. Sources in Spain believe a bid may be coming, and they are willing to do business.'

If you're a fan of bulls**t, you might be interested to know that Villa followed Mikel Arteta on Twitter on Friday night.

The Mirror also add that Adrian Lopez is still a target for Arsenal but, as Matt Stanger points out in part one of our Transfer Guide, the Atletico Madrid striker doesn't have the best goal and assists record.

CITY WANT RID OF MARIO
Despite Roberto Mancini saying he will give Mario Balotelli another '100 chances' to prove himself at Man City, The Daily Mail claim the manager is secretly trying to ditch the striker this month.

Mancini has played down reports of a training ground bust-up between the pair, but it's thought that the City boss is ready to finally give up on Balotelli, who has scored only once in the Premier League this season.

The Mail report: 'Manchester City are ready to sell Mario Balotelli as soon as possible after Roberto Mancini privately conceded he cannot change the wayward Italy striker.

'Despite further claims to the contrary from the City manager, it is understood that Mancini has finally decided it is time to move Balotelli out of the club.'

AC Milan are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, but City are only willing to consider a permanent deal.

QPR MOVE FOR LESCOTT
Quick line from The Sun now, who claim QPR have made an £8million offer for out-of-favour Man City defender Joleon Lescott.

It seems Lescott could be set to leave City in January after losing his place in the first team to Matija Nastasic this season, and Aston Villa and Everton are also thought to be tracking the defender.

QPR are the first to make a move for the 30-year-old, though, but Lescott is apparently holding out for a return to Goodison.

OWEN LOOKING FOR OZ
Michael Owen's future could lie in Australia after Perth Glory claimed they have been approached by the Stoke striker's agent about a move.

Owen is yet to start for the Potters in the Premier League this season after signing a one-year deal in the summer.

"Michael Owen's agent has enquired about Michael playing in the A-League," a Perth Glory spokesperson spokesman told the West Australian newspaper.

"Perth Glory are interested but are yet to find out Michael's terms and conditions. Until these are known, Perth Glory will not enter any further negotiations."
