LIVERPOOL CONFIDENT ON COUTINHO
Hopefully this won't turn into a 'saga', because we think we're at our limit for 'sagas.'
Still, Philippe Coutinho's proposed move to Liverpool is in some danger of dragging on a tad, but the good news is The Guardian claims Brendan's boys are confident of completing the signing soon.
Today, even. The paper claims that although Inter turned down the initial bid of around £8million, Liverpool are 'confident' that an improved offer will be accepted.
This is despite Coutinho saying he'd actually be rather happy to stay where he is, of course.
The Guardian says: 'The player has placed responsibility for any transfer firmly on the Italian club by stating that he wishes to impress the coach, Andrea Stramaccioni. Coutinho told Sky Italia: "The Liverpool offer? I'm happy with these offers, because it means I am doing my job well. But I think Inter have faith in me and I want to show my value here. I don't feel that I'm on my way out. I hope to stay at Inter. The young players feel the faith of the coach and of the club."
MORE KEEPERS FOR UNITED
Another day, another lot of stories about Manchester United looking at goalkeeping alternatives.
The Daily Mirror reckons United are 'set to battle it out' for Asmir Begovic with Manchester City, although quite why City are looking at a keeper at the level of Begovic is unclear. Well, The Mirror claims it's to keep Joe Hart 'on his toes', but that seems slightly unlikely.
Meanwhile, The Sun also thinks they have some competition from one of the big boys for a goalie - this time QPR's Julio Cesar.
Apparently United and Arsenal have both looked at the Brazilian, who was called up to the Selecao on Tuesday.
The Sun claims: 'David De Gea will be replaced at United while the Gunners are losing faith in Polish stopper Wojciech Szczesny.
'And SunSport has learned the two clubs have been canvassing opinion on Cesar. He has the pedigree United boss Alex Ferguson and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger are looking for.'
DIAME CLAUSE CONFUSION
Interesting line in The Daily Mail, who report that Mohamed Diame might be heading to the courts over a release fee that may or may not be in his contract.
We all know that Diame is supposed to have a £3.5million clause in his contract, allowing him to move for that amount this month.
However, according to the Mail Diame 'suspects' West Ham are planning to go back on this clause and try to keep him at the club.
Indeed, the paper reports: 'Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham have all shown a strong interest in the former Wigan man. But the Hammers are trying to sign Diame to a new contract in an bid to get rid of the release clause.
'So far the powerhouse midfielder is refusing to sign a new deal, knowing he is a target for a number of bigger clubs.'
ARSENAL IN FOR VILLA
More fun in The Sun now, and the paper reports that Arsenal will look to bag Mr David Villa at some point in this transfer window, if they can get him on the cheap. Such is the Arsenal way.
The paper claims: 'Boss Arsene Wenger is ready to make a £10million move even though the Spanish giants insist he is not for sale.
'But Villa, 31, is keen on a switch to the Emirates and is ready to force his way out.
'Yet Wenger, as always, is likely to leave his move until the last 48 hours of the window.'
All whiffs a little bit to us.
