The Erratic Gossip

Arsenal want Cuenca, Spurs want to gazump them for Diame, Coloccini staying, Liverpool want Williams and...

LIVERPOOL IN FOR WILLIAMS
This was mentioned on Thursday, but The Sun are sticking with their theory that Ashley Williams is the man Liverpool want to beef up that backline.

Of course Williams has worked with Rodgers before, so that means he's allowed to sign him, and despite the Welsh defender signing a new contract last summer, Rodgers is keen.

The paper claims: 'The Liverpool boss is confident of seeing off Arsenal and landing the Wales skipper in the summer - if £8million can tempt the Swans into doing business.'

ARSENAL IN FOR CUENCA
This is likely to placate angry Arsenal fans.

The Daily Express reports that they're in for another slightly flighty forward, this time Barcelona winger Isaac Cuenca.

With rather more pressing needs elsewhere on the pitch, we doubt this one would go down particularly well. But sometimes Arsene just can't help himself.

The paper claims: 'The Gunners have been admirers of Cuenca and they were interested in signing him in the past before he suffered a serious knee injury.

'Cuenca is yet to play for Barcelona this season, and regular game time is deemed vital in order to help him with his recovery.'

SPURS WANT DIAME
Interesting one in The Guardian, who claim that Spurs are looking to sneak in ahead of Arsenal for Mohamed Diame.

Diame has a £3.5million release clause in his contract, and the Gooners are thought to be keen, with Arsene Wenger expressing his admiration for Diame the other day.

Curiously, the paper seems to think Diame is a cheap alternative to Joao Moutinho, despite them being rather different players.

Of course, Diame denied that he was looking to leave the club on Thursday.

"I know there are people out there saying things about me, but I have spoken with the manager and told him that I want to stay here," Diamé said.

"I know the club want to keep me too, so I will continue to give my best for them. I knew when I signed that West Ham were going to make their mark on the Premier League. Since I came here, I am enjoying every game I play on the pitch. I think I made a good choice because I am very happy at this club."

COLO STAYING?
Interesting line in The Daily Mirror, who report that, contrary to reports that Fabricio Coloccini was set to walk out of Newcastle, he is actually going to stick around for the rest of the season.

And the change of heart seems to have taken place after he was quietly informed that it would cost him £7million to break his contract.

The paper claims: 'Whilst trying to provide as much support as possible to the defender, Newcastle have maintained a tough stance, adamant they will not write off a valuable financial asset and allow Coloccini to leave for free.

'If he should press the nuclear button and refuse to play to force a move, his £60k-a-week wages will be stopped and legal action sought.

'It could also wreck his international career, because he's been called into the Argentina squad to face Sweden in a friendly on February 6.'
