BALOTELLI SET FOR MILAN
The papers have been utterly convinced for some time that Mario Balotelli is on his way back to Italy, reporting on his housing arrangements, where he's been having dinner and - now - that he apparently threw a leaving party on Sunday.
The Sun reports that Balotelli told pals 'he was off to the San Siro and gave away mementos from his controversial stay at the Etihad'. Presumably a slightly charred bath mat was high on that particular list.
Anyway, the paper claims Manchester City will announced the sale of the striker for around £17million at some point on Monday, and offer an interesting little detail about the deal.
Apparently: 'It is understood Milan could include former Spurs midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng on top of that fee.'
However, the story does also claim this slightly laughable passage: 'Last night Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "At today's price it's 99.5 per cent certain that he is not coming. The stock market is closed until tomorrow."
'But just 24 hours earlier Galliani had said the deal was "99.9 per cent" dead. And in Italy that softened stance was seen as a clear indication that Balotelli would soon join the Rossoneri.'
CHELSEA TRIED TO GET DROGBA BACK
It looks like Didier Drogba is set to sign for Galatasaray, but The Sun claims Chelsea tried to re-sign the big striker earlier this month.
The paper reports: 'Owner Roman Abramovich made an embarrassing U-turn by sanctioning a move for the former Blues hero.
'Drog, 34, was offered a six-month deal to the summer with a further one-year option for next season.
'It was a blunt admission by Red Rom that his £50million golden boy Fernando Torres has flopped.'
It seems, in an usual move, Chelsea were trumped for cash, with the Turkish side offering £6million after tax, plus also of course being able to offer Champions League football.
CHELSEA IN FOR BUTLAND
At the opposite end of the age scale, Jack Butland is likely to be available for a reasonable price before Thursday, given Birmingham's financial issues, and The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea are interested.
Since they already have Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois, it seems like an odd one, but it seems Chelsea are attracted by the potential bargain price of £3million.
The Mirror claims: 'Butland could be loaned out to stay sharp and his value is not likely to drop as Chelsea consider the unexpected swoop.
'Liverpool, Everton and Southampton have all been given the chance to sign Butland recently. But none of them want to commit at the moment.'
COUTINHO DEAL WORKS FOR EVERYONE
It looks very much like Phillipe Coutinho is heading to Liverpool, and Inter president Massimo Moratti thinks this is one to make everyone happy.
He said: "The deal for Coutinho to Liverpool is an opportunity both for Inter and both for the player.
"We could be happy with the economic proposal and Coutinho could find the space he hasn't here. And then we'll have the opportunity to reinforce the team".
The fee is thought to be something like £8.5million.
NORWICH IN HOOPER TALKS
There is a certain amount of inevitability to Gary Hooper's proposed move to Norwich. It just seems to make sense for most concerned.
Anyway, The Daily Mail reports that they are in talks again with Celtic over the striker, with talk that they are preparing a £7million bid.
The paper reports: 'Manager Chris Hughton is struggling to bring in targets with Sporting Lisbon's Ricky Van Wolfswinkel out of his price range as the Portuguese rate him close to £12m.
'Celtic insist they want £8m for Hooper, 25, and Norwich have only offered £4.5m.'
