BAYERN WANT ROONEY?
Despite Sir Alex Ferguson's reassurance that Wayne Rooney will stay at Manchester United, this one won't be going away in a hurry.
The Daily Mail reports that Bayern Munich are the latest side to show an interest in the England forward, with Pep Guardiola's Big Transfer War Chest providing plenty of fodder for the rumour-mongerers of the land.
The paper claims (via The Sunday Times, it must be said, but it's a slow day): 'Guardiola is an admirer of Rooney, and once described the striker as 'one of the greatest players in the world', and might be willing to stump up the £20million-plus for the forward.
'Bayern are also one of the few teams in Europe who could afford to pay Rooney's staggering £230,000-a-week wage, should he decide to leave Manchester in the summer.'
For what it's worth, Franz Beckenbauer is quoted as saying in The Sun: "I would be very happy for Wayne Roney to come to Bayern."
ARSENAL AFTER WANYAMA
Quick line in The Daily Star that we should see repeated over the summer months.
The paper claims that Arsene Wenger will 'redouble his efforts' to sign midfielder Victor Wanyama from Celtic, despite Alex Song apparently keen on a return to Arsenal.
The Star reckons Wanyama is Wenger's preferred target, and a bid of around £10million will get the Kenyan midfielder.
Wenger is also apparently keeping an eye on Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo.
PSG JOIN BALE BIDDING
The queue for Gareth Bale lengthens.
The Sun reports that Paris St Germain will throw their considerable weight and wealth behind a bid for the man all the cool kids want - Gareth Bale.
Well, we say they 'report' - what they actually do is report some words from Damien Comolli, the man who brought Bale to Spurs in the first place.
Comolli said: "When you leave Tottenham and you are a player like Bale, there are only three or four clubs you can go to.
"If PSG know the player is on the market - and there is a possibility - it wouldn't surprise me if they did everything in their power to get him."
BARRY WANTS TO STAY
Gareth Barry wants to stick around for a bit, it seems.
"I want to finish my career still challenging for trophies and this is the perfect club at which to do that," he's quoted as saying by Sky.
"I am very settled here but at the same time I have got a lot of respect for the people who have come in.
"They are going to have a good long look at the way they want to go and the players they want to go with it so as individuals we need to work hard when we get the chance."
