ARSENAL IN FOR JOVETIC
Here's one that has been doing the round a fair bit.
The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal are very keen indeed on young Fiorentina colt Stevan Jovetic, and will spend a pretty penny on him too.
The paper claims Arsene Wenger will loosen those purse strings for the striker, who is 'fast emerging as Arsenal's number one summer transfer target.'
Jovetic is apparently valued by Fiorentina at around £20million, but Wenger 'who has a £70million transfer budget, is willing to go over Fiorentina's valuation to land Jovetic.'
That last bit sounds a bit iffy. When was the last time Wenger overpaid for anyone? Apart from Andre Santos, obviously. But only because anything above £7.86 was overpaying for him. However, apparently Wenger might have second thoughts if Arsenal don't make the Champions League, which seems a little counter-productive, but who are we to doubt Arsenal's financial management.
SCHALKE WANT MOYES
Here's an interesting one, also in The Mail.
Apparently Schalke are interested in one David Moyes for their managerial gig, and they also have their eyes on Roberto di Matteo.
However: 'Ideally, they want a coach who can speak German,' said a source. 'That is increasingly the way among Bundesliga clubs, and, if Moyes wants the job, he may have to follow Pep Guardiola's lead and learn the language in a hurry.'
Here's what Moyes himself said about his future, in reference to whether their qualification for the Europe will change his plans: "It doesn't alter anything. The decision at the end of the season will be made by me and the players and how well we all do together, how high we finish in the league. It's never changed.
"I want the players to do well. You can see the way they've spoken this week, they're saying they're ambitious to finish as high up as they can, qualify for Europe if they can - well that's the same as the manager and that's what we're going to try to work towards."
LESCOTT TO LEAVE CITY FOR BUTTONS
More from The Mail, who claim that Joleon Lescott will be allowed to leave Manchester City for a pretty darn small fee in the summer.
Specifically, £4million. Bargain.
'The Mail claims: Lescott feels he cannot risk problems at club level interfering with his international aspirations and will reluctantly ask to leave the Etihad at the end of this season.
'With a year left on his contract and City manager Roberto Mancini revealing that he tried to sign another central defender in January, there seems little likelihood that the Italian will stand in Lescott's way.'
WILLIAMS NOT THINKING OF CITY
Bit of a slow day for gossip, so here's Crystal Palace youngster Jonny Williams on reported interest in him from Manchester City.
"It's nice to have that kind of story about me but I'm contracted to Palace and my main aim is getting us into the Premier League for next season.
"I enjoy every minute at Palace, it's been great, and I signed a new deal at the end of last season.
"I never expected to play one game let alone 40-odd and hopefully I can get to the 100 mark like Wilf and Clyne and the other academy youngsters. That would be amazing."
