ROONEY MUST HAND IN A TRANSFER REQUEST
Manchester United are all about protocol, apparently.
That's what The Daily Mail reckons, with the paper reporting that United have told Wayne Rooney he must hand in a formal transfer request, with his X at the bottom and everything, if he wants to leave.
The paper reports: 'They say the England forward is not for sale. Having knocked back a speculative enquiry from Barclays Premier League rivals Arsenal last week, United have not had any contact from one of the few clubs that could afford Rooney.
'The only way the situation will change is if the player decides to force the issue. Sportsmail revealed at the end of last season that Rooney had suggested to previous United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that a move may be in his best interests.
'A written request would mean Rooney would write off any money owed on the two remaining years of his £250,000-a-week contract.'
HIGUAIN HEADING TO ARSENAL
Good news, Gooners. It seems your chase for Gonzalo Higuain might be finally reaching a conclusion.
Higuain's old man has been quoted by Fox Sports Argentina as saying: "We have been given permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal.
"I will luckily be able to see my son in the Premier League soon.
"There isn't anything signed yet, but the negotiations are very advanced.
"We haven't spoken about the contract yet. Arsenal has made a great offer, in the same way as Juventus."
CHELSEA IN FOR...RUDDY?
This is a weird one.
The Guardian reports that Chelsea have made a £5million bid for Norwich keeper John Ruddy, which has been turned down. So keen are they, that apparently Chelsea could go back in for the Englishman.
The paper claims: 'The Europa League winners are seeking a back-up goalkeeper for Petr Cech and would ideally like to sign an Englishman with an eye on homegrown numbers for European competition. Ross Turnbull, who filled the role last season, has been released with Chelsea having sought to secure Jack Butland in January - the player eventually left Birmingham City for Stoke - and considered Fraser Forster at Celtic.'
...AND DE ROSSI...
In slightly sexier news, The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea have made a move for Roma midfielder and one long-sleeve merchant Daniele de Rossi.
The paper reckons that, with Roma apparently making basically all of their squad available, Jose Mourinho has chucked £10million on the table and hopes that'll do nicely.
The Mirror says: 'Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is even due in London next week to discuss a potential loan deal for Chelsea's Brazilian right-back Wallace, who was recruited from Fluminense in January.
'The Blues will use the opportunity to push for a deal on de Rossi, and while Roma insisted the opening figure of £8.5m was not enough, it seems the Serie A club will settle for a cut-price deal and let him go.'
ADEBAYOR ON HIS WAY?
Quick couple of lines on Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Daily Express reports that Spurs are in talks with Besiktas as they try to get rid of their striker, with a £5million move to Turkey mooted.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mirror says much the same, but reckon Adebayor won't be forced out.
The paper claims: 'Adebayor, bought from City for £5.5 only last summer, will not be pushed out against his will and is fully prepared to start next season as a Tottenham player.
'With three years left on his contract, Adebayor is adamant he will not be pushed out of the Premier League or forced into giving up the lucrative deal Spurs handed to him.'
